Title

Braceros spend their leisure time eating and resting in a living quarter near McAllen, Texas.

Description

On a Texas farm, 200 braceros, stacked like drygoods, share a long, shed-like building with double-deck canvas beds. Such close living conditions cause respiratory illnesses among the braceros.

Original Caption: A flimsy barracks, by turns drafty or stifling, is the housing provided by a Texas farmer for his braceros. The only mattress on the double-decker bunks is a sheet of canvas. Crowded living conditions like these result in a high incidence of respiratory illness among the braceros. (Jubilee: A Magazine for the Church and Her People, April 1957, p. 40.)
